Fox 35’s Newest Meteorologist

Friday’s trip to Orlando with the Media girls gave me a glimpse inside the world of local TV stations. Fox 35 was kind enough to give all 5 of us a tour of the station and our first stop was the local news set. Needless to say, we had a pretty good time in there. Taking pictures behind the desk looking like newscasters and watching ourselves on screen with the weather maps behind us was probably the highlight of our day. Oh wait, we actually did some work while we were there too; we met with the local sales manager and an account executive to discuss an upcoming media buy for one of our clients. Did I mention there were 5 of us, and that we took the Vibe? It was quite a cozy ride to Orlando and back…

I want to share a viral campaign put out by Office Max. For the back to school season, Office Max is pushing the idea “Power to the Penny” by having select school supplies or deals involving certain products costing only a penny. The viral part of the campaign is 11 videos on YouTube under the username “pennyprank”. These hidden camera pranks include a guy who tries to pay for all kinds of purchases with pennies in NYC. The reactions are priceless. Enjoy.

I’ve got an exciting week coming up; Nicole and I are heading down to Ft. Lauderdale to visit the Guy Harvey offices and his artwork library, and Thursday I am assisting with the Father Lopez photo shoot all day! Only two weeks left :(

Less Cow Suit, More Work

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Things as an intern got down to business this week, there was a lot to be done and I was ready to help wherever I was needed. The work got rolling for Flooring HQ as Nicole and I opened job after job for them. ARC was on pause for the week because of their trade show in Vegas and most of my week consisted of helping Darin with Father Lopez. The site finally went live (check it out! www.fatherlopez.org) and I was had the job of inserting most of the copy and the calendar. The site looks awesome and the client is very pleased with it, so my tedious job paid off. The Thompson Pump mining outfit project (which I worked on my first week) is back once again. Christine and I are trying so hard to find this outfit and stopping in GI Jeff’s may have paid off because they MIGHT be able to order it for us. I also paid ACE Hardware, Sports Authority, Boater’s World and Wal-Mart a visit to take pictures of product packaging for ARC Dehooker. We were a bit stuck on how to package some of their products together but I think my research helped!

Everyone in the office is talking about the new Batman movie Dark Knight, which in case you aren’t aware, set a box office record with $155 million on opening weekend. I haven’t seen it yet and I better see it soon because everyone around here is giving away parts of the plot (I won’t name names…Derick). The Subway team is expanding my advertising knowledge by involving me in their upcoming meetings with the Tampa and Miami markets. I am looking forward to helping them out and learning more about what they do.

Oh and on another note, Darin beat Michael’s high score on Pacman, we celebrated Brenna’s birthday this week (happy birthday!) and Amie lied to us all about bringing in breakfast…

Utterly Hilarious

Monday, July 14th, 2008

It’s getting hard to believe that three weeks of my time here at Benedict has already passed. On Tuesday I got to tour the beautiful new Father Lopez campus and I am looking forward to helping out with the upcoming photo shoot. On Thursday I was involved in a client meeting in Orlando which was an awesome learning experience as to how the ball gets rolling with a new client, how ideas are presented to a client, etc. The ride back to Daytona that day led to some interesting conversations, which is where the exciting part of my week came about.

Michael reminded all of us that Chick-fil-a’s “dress like a cow day” was coming up and someone need to step up and represent Benedict. It just so happens that Stephanie owns a cow suit, which Darin wore for the event two years ago. After returning to the office, we came to find out that “dress like a cow day” was in fact the next day and before I got another word in, Michael e-mailed the office that I would be partaking in the event. So I was a good sport and put the cow suit on Friday, and walked through the Daytona Mall to get free Chick-Fil-A. Everyone in the office got a good laugh out of it and we took some pretty funny pictures.

Now that I am really catching on to how things work here at Benedict, the next four weeks should be busy. As business picks up for everyone here with new jobs and new clients, I am glad to be able to lend everyone a hand. As much work that gets done here, there are just as many jokes and laughs which is what makes this place so much fun.

More Than a Copy Girl

Monday, July 7th, 2008

As my second week here at Benedict comes to an end and I am writing my very first blog (ever! not just here at work), I am reminded of a blog that a friend of mine who interned at BBDO started called The Intern Closet. Here at Benedict I am lucky to have more than a closet! Actually, my own desk and an office to share with some pretty cool people. After my first week of bouncing around the office and spending a whole day with each different department, the bit of jealousy I had for my friends interning in NY, LA and Chicago quickly faded. I chose this internship knowing I would get so much out of it, and I was proven right in just the first week. I can say with most certainty that the girls at BBDO, Ogilvy and TBWA\Chiat\Day did not get to spend an entire day in each different department at their agency. Starting out like this allowed me to understand how the agency works in its entirety and taught me a lot about other areas of advertising instead of only thinking about account services.

So this week I settled in at my desk with the account services department and I have felt right at home ever since. The week has flown by and I’ve gotten the chance to work on projects, sit in on meetings and learn so much about our interesting clients. Feeling like I have a connection to some of the clients I am working on is definitely a plus. As hard as it was to read the MOAS magazine over and over again, I grew up going to summer camp at the Museum and my family has always been involved with them, so I really felt good doing work for them. Also, working on the ARC Dehooker has been tons of fun because I love fishing and all things outdoorsy (as does Nicole) and it really drives the work we do. The best thing about Benedict so far is that I truly feel like I fit in here. Actually the best thing so far is that I haven’t had to make anyone coffee…
